Learning and Growing

Christian education...the way of discipleship...is an important part of life here at Grace. And it's not just limited to Sunday School classes for kids:

We believe that adult education is extremely important. No one would think of sending their kids into the world with just an 8th grade education. We believe the same is true for adult Christians, which is why there is always a variety of learning options for adults here at Grace.

For the month of June, adult learners have several opportunities. On Wednesday evenings, you're invited to join us at the Harris-Elmore Public Library for a discussion of C.S. Lewis' book "The Screwtape Letters." We'll be there at 7:00pm. Our yoga "Stretch and Pray" group meets on Thursdays at 6:15pm here at the Church. On that same evening you can join us for Bible study at 6:30pm. And on Tuesday, June 17, the first of our five part "Theology on Tap" series meets at 7:00pm at Elmore's Portage Inn. Join us as we explore "Does Marriage Still Matter?" It's serious discussion on timely topics in a relaxed environment...something we hope you'll enjoy.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember: I am with you always, to the end of the age."
-Jesus sends his disciples into the world
(Matthew 28:19-20)

Monthly, on the first Thursday at 1:30pm, the Rachel Circle meets for Bible study and fellowship. Our on-line Bible study, which you can access via the Forum page of this website, is available again. We encourage you to check it out. Likewise, we invite you to take a moment and let us know what other kinds of studies you'd like to pursue via our on-line classroom.

Youth in grades 7 through 12 have their own special classes and events, in addition to participating regularly and fully in the life of the whole congregation.

  • "Affirmation of Baptism" is a two-year study for 7th & 8th graders designed to move them towards greater understanding and ownership of their own faith. It meets Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings during the school year.
  • Although on hiatus right now, our high school youth have their own discussion and study group on Sunday mornings during the school year. The topics vary depending on the needs of the group. This group is also preparing to be part of the 2009 National Youth Gathering in New Orleans. That will be a blast!
  • "First Sunday" is an 6:00pm Sunday gathering on...you guessed it...the first Sunday of each month (unless that day is a holiday). There's pizza; there's volleyball; and there's some serious, heart-to-heart discussion about what it means to be both faithful and a teenager.
In addition to these regular events, there are lots of special opportunities for fun, study and serving. This month, they're working on an "Adopt-a-Family" project that will bring a happier holiday to an area family. Contact the church for details; check the calendar page on this site; or e-mail Jen.

Children in grades P through 6 gather in age-level classes every Sunday morning at 9:15am through the school year. They've been participating in a year-long mission project since last September...aid to the the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. In addition, the Children's Ministry Team plans special events for them and their families throughout the year to help connect "Sunday School" learning with a sense for mission and a love of God's people.

You'll find more information about current education offerings on the calendar page on this site, or by calling or e-mailing us.
